Yesterday my short story, A Quiet Tidy Man, won the Royal Academy of Arts / Pin Drop short story award 2016. The six shortlisted authors were invited to a ceremony at the Royal Academy in London, where the actress, Juliet Stevenson, announced the winner and read the story to an audience of about a hundred people.
I took my son Henry along with me, and he took some photos on my phone – hence the poor quality. There were lots of official photos taken, and when I see some I’ll put them up here.
After the reading I was interviewed by two of the judges about my writing, and I’m sure I made a bit of a hash of my answers since I was rather over-excited. I think this might have been recorded too, so we’ll see… And then there was a little drinks reception for everyone who had come along and I got to have a chat with Juliet who was very lovely and funny.
Although I haven’t yet read the other writers’ stories I have no doubt they’re wonderful. You can take a look at the list on Pin Drop’s website.
A recording of Juliet reading my story will be online at some point soon, and I’ll send a message out when it’s available to listen to.
Is your story read-able anywhere yet, Claire?

No, not yet. Perhaps I should say that in the post. I think it will be shortly, and I’ll let people know.

Big congratulations. I know there is a lot of work involved in keeping writing, while all this other stuff is happening around you. Very impressed.

Thanks so much Hilary. Book three has gone on the back burner for a while. It is hard to juggle it all.
