It seems I have a bit of a thing for novels which feature artists. Here are seven favourites, three of which were in my top reads for 2022, 2024, and 2025. I’m looking at you Take What You Need by @idranovey, Burntcoat by Sarah Hall, and The Italian Teacher by Tom Rachman. But I would recommend them all, and if you’re also into fiction about artists, then you might like to take a look at Hunger and Thirst too. If you’ve read Hunger and Thirst you will have come across Georgie Bates a character who is a second year art student at the art school where the main character works in the post room. You might like to know that Georgie is a real person and a great friend who is still creating beautiful paintings @georgie_bates_studio. You should take a look. On 17th June I’ll be @bookhausbristol chatting about my latest novel, Hunger and Thirst. And excitingly we’ll have special guest @henryaylingguitarist who will be playing music that’s featured in my books. A special #clairesbooksatbreakfast today, featuring my latest novel, Hunger and Thirst which was published by @tin_house on 2 June. Thank you for having me @harrisharrisbooks! I had a wonderful Hunger and Thirst event last night in Suffolk. Interviewed by the brilliant @karen_angelico and of course got to meet again the lovely Kate, book shop owner. If you live anywhere nearby, you must pay a visit because it is a wonderful shop. I also got to meet loads of their customers, including this man in the photos (who I’ve forgotten the name of) who had come from Seattle for this event! Today I’m so excited to let you know that my sixth novel Hunger and Thirst is published in the US by @tin_house and in Canada by Bond Street Books @doubledayca. Aren’t these covers amazing? I’m absolutely delighted that the short story anthology, Unquiet Guests, in which I have a short story called A Land Beneath, has been nominated for the @shirleyjacksonawards in the category of Edited Anthology. Congratulations to @dan.coxon.author, our editor and @deadinkbooks as well as to the other authors who have a story in this anthology. And to all the other shortlisted anthologies. A great day and a half @hayfestival with #librarianhusband . Meeting old friends and making new ones. Great to meet you in real life @lorraineblencoewrites and @julia_flyte! A wonderful event talking about Hunger and Thirst with @infinite.bibliotherapy_ and then chatting with @signaturehiggs about his brilliant book, The Hill in the Dark Grove. Join me for the online launch of the @tin_house publication of Hunger and Thirst in the US. On June 4, I’ll be chatting with @mlfaliveno about the book, inspiration, spooky houses and art. This free event is hosted by @thewriterscenter and anyone around the world can join (6pm EST /11pm BST), just follow the link in my bio to upcoming events, or write ‘Hunger and Thirst’ in a comment and I’ll DM you the zoom link.
