Don’t be put off by this rather trashy cover, The House Next Door (published in 1978) is the best kind of literary horror (think Rosemary’s Baby or The Haunting of Hill House). But you might be put off by how difficult it is to get a hold of, especially in the UK – so any UK editors who might be interested in a republishing project please read on. This is Anne Rivers Sidden’s only horror novel, the other 18 were southern US family dramas. The audio book of Hunger and Thirst is available in the UK from @xigxag_official for just £3.99 during August, and without a subscription. Such a great event @thegreenbookshop in Herne Bay last night. Thanks to Jacqui for hosting and to everyone for coming including @thelibraryofimagination. Plus I got to spot Cliff Richard! 😂 Scroll along to see. Compensation by @churchofaugustinecerf is a darkly funny novel of dangerous choices, and a brilliant study of human nature. Wow, what a voice, what a story. I absolutely loved The Summer My Mother had Green Eyes by Tatiana Țîbuleac, but it’s not an easy read. I listened to it, via @xigxag_official. Beautiful nature writing in this novel about 12 year old Pietro. Who remembers the long hot summer of 1976? For me it was playing in the stream at the bottom of the garden, staying outside until it was nearly dark, lying under just a sheet as my mum billowed it, and the salty smell of my grubby knees. Absolutely delighted that Unquiet Guests, the anthology of haunted house stories from @deadinkbooks and edited by @dan.coxon.author, and which includes my short story Another Land Beneath has won the @shirleyjacksonawards for Edited Anthology. On Saturday 25th July I’ll be @thegreenbookshop in Herne Bay, Kent, talking about Hunger and Thirst as part of @hernebayfest. And I’d love it if you can join me. Tickets via the book shop bio. Hope to see you there!
